2019 Quilt and Cross Stitch Parade

Even with this being the crappiest year, I have surprised myself on how much I did get done.  I had 13 items on my 2019 Goals list and I was able to finish 8 of them.  (Orange Jamestown Landing, Good Fortune BH Mystery) Black/Tan Idol quilt, Guild mystery, Moda Blockhead, Consignment Blue quilt, Trick or Treat, Material Girl Challenge-curved leaves)  Cross Stitching has been added to my hobby list which was a blessing to have since I spent a lot of time sitting in a hospital and rehab with my dad.  So without any further ado... The Quilts... The Cross Stitching... The Common Thread Quilt Guild Annual Boutique Items (there were more I just didn't take pictures of everything this year. And the 2019 Ornament Exchange... Tomorrow I'll work on my goals for 2020.  Since my friendship group is having a list of WIPS to work on it shouldn't take me that long for the quilts.  I also have kitted up about 13 new cross stitch patterns so I'll...

Material Girl 2019 Challenge Quits

I'm late posting this but at least I'm getting it done before Christmas. My friendship group, Material Girls, has an annual challenge.  This year it was we had to piece curves.  When we chose the challenge I knew exactly what I wanted to do.  I posted mine a couple posts ago, but just in case you missed it, here is my quilt. Here's the rest of the group's quilts. Barbara Sawyer Erin Bader Erin Bader Anna Koelewyn Janice Minyard Janice Minyard Anna Koelewyn Deolinda Rhoads Diane Mitchell Rita Buchler We don't have to have it finished.  We don't even have to do it.  It's just something most of us like to do.  This next year our challenge is to use a ruler or technique we haven't used (you know - we all buy those things and never use them.)  We also have to incorporate text of some sort on the piece - either using fabric with words on it or applique, embroider, etc. And since we all have a lot o...

A Cross Stitch Finish and Bonnie Hunter Mystery

It's been kind of  slow month.  My machine (Bernina 750) has been in the shop for the past two weeks so not a whole lot of quilting going on.  But I did finish a cross stitch piece.  It's a Prairie Schooler Santa.  See photo above.  This is the one with the Sewing Machine.  I also have the pattern with a quilt and that will be the next one I work on.  They are pretty easy patterns and they use mostly the same DMC colors so they all coordinate.  They have an annual Santa.  The one with the sheep is from this year and the sewing machine one is from a previous year. As far as the Bonnie Hunter 2019/2020 mystery Frolic goes, I was caught up until yesterday.  Now that my machine will be back (today) I can work on yesterday's clues.  I don't have pictures of my finished Clue 1 & 2 but here are pictures of the pieces I needed to make those clues.  I'm trying to do mine in Fall colors.  It will be dark (not a lot o...

My New Morning View and some Quilty Finishes

With my new job I actually am starting at the same time I used to leave for my old job.  Who knew sunrises were so pretty.  I'm a night owl so this has been quite the adjustment for me.  And as promised, some quilt finishes. Trick or Treat was a block of the month, pre-cut with the fusible already on it from Shabby Fabrics.  I did zig zag with coordinating threads around all the pieces and then quilted it.  Some of it glows in the dark.  I love this and can't wait to hang it next year. And this is my Material Girls (my friendship group) annual challenge quilt.  We were challenged to piece curves.  I love fall so when I saw this in Sew Kind of Wonderful's mini book, I knew I had to make it.  I had a bunch of fall color solids and wanted a light blue background and it's another of my fall favorites.  My cousin Barbara, who was very instrumental in helping me get home health care for my dad, has a set of twin great grandch...

Antique Quilt finish

Top hand pieced by Lula Gurtrude Habaugh Smith.  This was made from clothes that were from Ida Smith Andersen who is my sister's mother-in-law. My sisters mother-in-law had this quilt top in a bag in her sewing room and Beverly found it when they were helping her clean out her room when they moved to an assisted living facility.  My sister asked if I would be willing to quilt it for her and I jumped on the chance to work on it.  It's a pretty good sized quilt, about 74 x 100.   I rounded the borders off instead of cutting them off.  I hope her mother-in-law will like what I did. I also finished this Cross Stitch and framed it by using a purchased frame then used some bone fabric that I tea dyed since it was super white and clashed with the Aida fabric.  I will be giving this to my hubby for a Christmas gift. I finished the top of my Material Girl challenge top and have the back all ready to pin.  Just need the desire to clear my floor ...

A Quilt Finish

The pattern is called Anita's Arrowhead from Anita Grossmon Solomon's Rotary Cutting Revolution book.  It's also part of her CraftsyBluePrint class.  I was going to make the quilt much bigger but decided this was the perfect size and used the rest of the squares for the back.  So it's like a double sided quilt.  I quilted it myself on my Bernina 750.  I used a light pink Superior Magnifico thread on top and of course a neutral Superior Bottom Line in the bobbin.  I love how it finished.   I also finished some more cross stitch fabrics.  I still can't show about 5 of them because they are my homemade Christmas ornaments I will use this year for my siblings.  But here is what I finished. Pattern by The Cricket Collection.  Made this into a pillow - but a decorative pillow - not to be 'used'. Prairie Schooler 2019 Santa.  On a grapevine wreath Hands On Design with Priscilla Blain pattern from Just Cr...

Catching Up - lots of pictures

Quick update on my dad.  He spent 6 weeks in a wonderful rehab center and is at home with full-time home health care and getting physical and occupational therapy at home.  I am finally home and adjusting to a new type of life (still no job but some interviews lined up).  He's a remarkable man with a strong will to live. It's finally cooling off around here so showing a fall topper I finally finished is appropriate.  I've been working on this on and off for about a year.  It's all wool except for the backing.  The patterns and some of the wools were purchased during my New England trip about 6 years ago.  It's about time I got around to getting it done. So it's my guild's boutique time and usually spend the month of September making stuff for the boutique.  Here are some things I was able to work on while caring for my dad.  The tulip quilt and pumpkin quilts were from Fig Tree's Little Box of Figs a few years ago.  I cut th...
