One of those Days (Months)

No matter what I say or write these days seems to be taken wrong.  So for now I'm just going to shut up!  Sorry if I have offended anyone through emails, conversations or comments on blogs.  I never meant to offend anyone. I will continue to focus my blog on quilts.  I will remain silent at all guild meetings and board meetings.  I will not give my 2 cents of any kind to anything guild related.  Can you tell I'm having a pity party?  I will get over it.  I always do. Rant over.  Wish I had a pretty picture of a finished quilt to show.  But the one thing I've finished since coming home from the coast was my piece of a snake or ribbon quilt for another Loose Thread member for her birthday in August and I can't show it until she's received the gift.  I have to work on one more and got the pieces cut and marked and will hopefully get that one done tonight.   So I'll leave you with this cute picture of my niece I took a few years back of her big old smile.  She

Cool, Cool Cambria Retreat

While the temperatures were about 100 degrees here in the central valley, 5 of my Material Girl friends cooled off in Cambria for a mini retreat.  It was full of fun, food and laughter as most quilt retreats are.   Here is 5 of us on a walk on the East-West ranch - right on the coast line.  Snagged some guy to take our picture.  Anna stayed back at the house to stand guard. The only bad thing that happened this weekend (beside popping waistband buttons because of all the food) was on Friday my sewing machine had a Fatal Error and pretty much stopped working.  It will be going to the hospital this week.  Luckily another wonderful friend was coming to Cambria and happened to have her machine.  She actually brought it to come sew with us for a day, but she sacrificed her time with us so I could sew the rest of the weekend.  So BECKY K.  THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!  I owe you big time.  But on to the pictures.  One of my quickie finishes.  It was a kit.  Super easy.  (I a

Basketball Quilt for my Nephew - DONE!

Finally!  I made sure I made it long enough to cover his 6' frame.  I hope he likes it.  It's kind of bright but I'm hoping all the basketball fabrics will distract him from that.  the back is mostly black with a little blue thru it. This is one of the patterns from the Happy Hour book.  It's the second quilt I've made like this and the 3rd from the book. I also finished the guild block of the months.  I took Jodie from Sew Handmade 's idea and used patterned reds instead of tone on tones. See you can teach an old dog new tricks. Now if I can just win one of these.  I used to win at least one time per year but it's been a while.  I'd really like these. Good night and hope you all have a wonderful week.

Sew Mama Sew's Thread Survey

Sew Mam Sew's blog had a thread survey and they asked us to post pictures either on their forum or our own blog.  Since I didn't know how to post pictures there, I thought it would be easier to do it here.  Here's a link to their blog. http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=8780 Here's a picture of my threads.  The plastic boxes are usually stored in a cabinet below the drawer but I wanted a picture of most of my threads in one shot.  * How did you select colors for your personal thread collection?  Usually for a specific project.  Sometimes though, they are just so pretty and you never know when you'll need that particular color.     * Do you always match the color perfectly to your project?  Not always.  Sometimes I really want my quilting to show so I use contrasting thread.     * Do you ever use contrasting thread?  Yes.     * Do you use the same color in the bobbin as the upper thread?  I prefer to do this but sometimes I don't.     * What if a fabric has

Don't look mom....

well, I'm sure you'll look anyway and since you chose the pattern for the Christmas tree skirt, I guess it wouldn't hurt for you to peek at it.  I finished it yesterday.  Still have to name it.  Any suggestions?  This was a kit called Holidays at Home by Bloom Creek.  It was not meant to be a skirt but I went ahead and cut a circle out the middle and a slit in the back and added some ties. This is made with the striped material, you know the ones, with different 2.5" strips on one fabric.  Interesting ways to use those stripes to make 1/2 square triangles, and strip pieces.  It's a big skirt but my mom has her tree in the middle of their entry hall and really needed a big skirt to go all around it.  Other than finishing this quilt, I have my nephews quilt still pinned and ready to quilt, another full sized quilt to quilt for a friend, the guild asked me to quilt the opportunity quilt runner (a smaller version of the original for a guild giveaway) and I just fin
