Grand Illusion Mystery Caught Up and Christmas ornaments

I am all caught up with the  Bonnie Hunter Grand Illusion Mystery  quilt.  Here's the proof. Clue 5 Clues 1-5 Christmas was wonderful.  Still not the same as it was without my mom, but we try to make it as good as she would have made it.  My sister made ravioli's a few weeks ago when she was here with a little help from my dad and sister holding the drill to turn the pasta maker (see pictures from a few posts back).  Our friends Kevin and Lori came for Christmas Eve dinner and we ate and laughed.  We played a game on Lori's phone called Heads Up which was fun.  Dad didn't play, but he enjoyed watching us and laughing at our answers and clues. Each Christmas the siblings have exchanged hand-made ornaments.  For some reason, Christmas snuck up on 2 of them so only me and my younger sister got our ornaments completed.   Beverly made these little cuties. I made these sleds.  I bought the patterns/kits at Creating Keepsake in New Hampshire on my grand adve

Material Girl's Christmas Party

My friendship group Materials Girls had our Christmas party this afternoon where we show our challenge quilts, do a little quilt exchange and have wonderful fellowship with each other.  We also choose our next years challenge. Here's the group shot. Back row:  Rita, Anna, Barb, Sheila, Deolinda, Elaine and Diane Front row:  Maxine, Debbie, Kathy and Carol Missing this year were Janice (who was sick), Lynn Marie, Barbara B. and Adena who had other plans, and Sue. Our challenge this year was to make a quilt with a house on it.  This is a no pressure group and for these types of challenges, if you don't get it done, it's no big deal.  Here are the quilts that were done. Janices - taking off from the story of the old lady who lives in a shoe. Adena Joseph Me Me again.  After I made the first quilt I realized I could have used this FQS BOM.  It has 3 houses. Debbie Van Fossen Deolinda Rhoads Carol Chadwick And we also had some show and

Grand Illusion Clue 3 and a Loose Threads project

I have one, yes only one block, of clue 3 done for the  Bonnie Hunter Grand Illusion Mystery , however I do have all the strips with the black on it done and fabrics cut for the other piece.  Hopefully will be able to get to it next week.  The next 2 nights will be spent finishing and wrapping some Christmas gifts.  Here is what I have so far. And Loose Threads, the art quilt group that I belong to, met tonight and I finally was able to reveal my latest design board challenge.  This was the last round and I hope Karen will update the groups blog with all the pictures, but in the mean time, here is mine.  Inspired by something on this board. We are adding a couple new members next year because we've lost a couple due to moves this past few years.  We will be using artist styles for our inspiration next year.  More on that at another date. Off to bed.  Another busy day tomorrow. Thanks for looking.

Bonnie Hunter's Grand Illusion Mystery Part 2 & Family Time

I have only made 10 blocks of part 2 of the  Bonnie Hunter Grand Illusion Myster y because I spent this past weekend with my dad (who turned 80) and my sisters who live out of state and my brother, sister-in-law and niece.  Pictures in a minute.  But business first.  Here is the start of part two.  I am using her method 3 which will give me 100 extra black/white and 100 extra red/white half square triangles. I will work on these as needed.  I still need to mark the squares but I have some Christmas gifts I need to work on right of way. This past weekend was my dad's 80th birthday.  He didn't want a big party but wanted his kids to come visit him so my sister from Massachusetts and my sister from Seattle came to Ripon and we all celebrated with him.  He wanted to have a lobster dinner so we invited Kevin and Lori (friends of my folks from San Jose who are like adopted siblings) to join us for an Outback Steakhouse dinner. Here are some family pictures. A picture of my

Bonnie's Hunters Mystery Clue 1, a Christmas Quilt and BOM

Bonnie Hunter's annual mystery started this week  (Here's a link to her website and the mystery.) and I was able to spend all day yesterday working on my blocks since I got all my Christmas decorations up on Friday.  I only made one change on her colors this year.  I am using red instead of pink because I had a lot of red left over from my Farmer's Wife quilt.   I quilted my granddaughter's Christmas quilt very simply with straight lines and just outlined the letters and the deer.  But decided to add a few snowflakes in the big blank space using aqua colored thread. I also snuck in making the Fat Quarter Shops 2014 Designer Mystery Block of the Month. I was also able to finish the top of a quilt I started on my retreat a few weeks ago.  (The big blocks on the bottom and right side.)  I made 8 more blocks and put them all together and added a small white border.  And with some pieces that I had to cut off making these blocks I made 64 3.5" HST a

1st Annual Material Girls Wonder Valley Retreat

What a productive weekend for all who came.  Unfortunately only 7 of the 17 members were able to come but we had a GREAT time with great food and conversations.  Here are 6 of the 7 of us.  Diane took the picture so she wasn't in it. We sat in a circle kind of so we can all communicate easily.  We had great weather all weekend except for the fog driving up.  But we all got there Friday morning and sewed until about 1 today. Here are some of the things we all worked on this weekend.  I didn't get pictures of everything like the cute little purses that Diane made and the quilting Kathy did on her Melinda Bula quilt and the quilt bag she was working on today. I finished this little quilt top for my granddaughter.   The beautiful purple grey blocks are what Lynn Marie worked on and the other  blocks are what I got done on my Fireworks quilt top.  (8 of 16 done) Barbara worked on her boutique items.   She made a ton of napkins and started on some aprons yesterd
