National Jelly Roll Day

A quick post - a few friends and I got together at our beach house in Cambria this past weekend to celebrate National Jelly Roll Day.  We started the day with a cinnamon roll breakfast casserole.  For lunch we had tortilla roll ups, we had an actual vanilla jelly roll with raspberry jam and for dinner we had lasagna roll ups.  It was a 'roll' kind of day! I didn't take pictures of any of the food, but I did take pictures of the jelly roll rugs 4 of the 7 of us made.   Here are the the balls in the making.  And here are the rugs.  Mine is the first one which I did with Christmas fabric.  As always, we girls had a good time retreating at the beach house.  The house could actually be anywhere because we never leave.  What we do enjoy is the cooler weather.  It's still in the 90's at home so the cool weather was a pleasure.  Plus time spent with friends is always a good thing.  Before I left I did finish a couple m...

A Christmas Gift is done and some Butterflies.

I finished another one of these what I call 'Dr. Bags' but in fact is called the Boxy Tote.  I about gave up when I made one for myself a few months ago.  But this time I did okay.  I even made a pouch for the inside.  I just love this fabric.  So much so that I also bought it with a black background to make something for myself some day.  Two weeks ago, my husband and I took a day trip to the coast.  We specifically went to see the Monarch butterfly grove.  We've always heard about it but never got there during the right time of the year.  They are just now starting to gather at this grove (which they do every year) in San Luis Obispo.  The picture was taken through a telescope as you just can't really see it with your naked eye.  And apparently they just started and that by the end of the month this grove will be covered with these clusters. Here's a video of them all clustered.  Again, taken through a telescope....

Retreat Time

A few friends and I took a quick trip to Cambria for a retreat.  Quilting retreat.  We sewed, we watched movies and we ate...a lot.  At least I did.  I got a lot done, but no finished tops.  I turned my Material Girl House challenge pieces, I cut some fusible designs for the design board challenge for Loose Threads, and turned and pressed some pieces of my Baltimore Christmas Block of the Year block.  I also hand sewed the binding down on these 5 little Easter Runners (1 for each of my 2 sisters and sister-in-law, one for my step-daughter and one for me.  (Pattern from Shabby Fabrics.) See that beautiful portable design wall?  My friends gave it to me as a thank you for opening up the house for our little retreats.  It sure is big and came in handy.  I'll be able to use it at home since I don't really have one here. So my friends got a lot done.  Deolinda finished the most tops. Kathy finished a huge quilt for her husb...

Nipomo Trunk Show and Cambria Retreat

So last Thursday I did a trunk show at the Nipomo Quilt Guild.  What a nice bunch of ladies and they really made me feel so welcomed.  One lady even gave me some brownies to take to the retreat.  It was great to see my friend Sue and fortunately I had my "groupies" with me so I wasn't among all strangers.  These were ladies who were coming to our house in Cambria for a weekend retreat.  Here's me on the stage and my friends who came with me. From left to right - top:  Janice, me Sue, Elaine.  Bottom:  Debbie and Kathy Even though it rained a bit this weekend, we had a wonderful time - probably because we don't get out much.  We went out for dinner one night and went to town one afternoon to do a little shopping.  We all got a lot done and as usual, plenty of laughs, food and fun.  Here are some of the projects we worked on. A quickie of my grandson

He has finally got some teeth in.  Even while going thru that he was not too grumpy when we saw him this weekend. Chad and Jack Kelly and Jack Gpa and Jack - he was very impressed with his mustache. Jack, Gpa and Oma (me) Oma - see my new teeth?   Just love that little guy! Been busy machine quilting (and fighting with the tension) on the Pop Art quilt I put together in Cambria a couple months ago.  I hope I finish that this weekend. Thanks for looking. Barb
