What's been happening..

Wish I could report that I've completed a lot of quilts but that would be lying.  I have been busy, actually designing stuff and getting quilt tops pinned.  I don't normally show things in process but I might need to start. First I finally finished this top (after I got the right ruler it all came together beautifully). I used the design wall at the local quilt store since I don't have one at home.  The great thing about that is you get a lot of opinions on where to put blocks.  The top is all done and a border added. The second one is from a class I started a few years ago with Sue Garmen - it's her twirly balls block.  I decided to make mine from all different colors.  I'm working on the last block now but here are the other 8 blocks. Still not sure how I'm going to set it.  I don't have a lot of the background fabric left and the other colors I just used fat quarters so there isn't a lot of any of those either.  It will come to me wha...

My Only Block of the Month Block is DONE!

Last year I did so many block of the months, I didn't think I got enough of my own projects done.  So this year I promised myself I would refrain from signing up for any more than just the FQS Designer Mystery.  (I already signed up for next years too that starts in May or June I think.)  I also have all the setting blocks and borders cut and ready to assemble. Fat Quarter Shop Designer Mystery Quilt -block 11 But that's not all I've been up to.  I finished 3 quilt tops and got 5 quilts pinned.  One is our guild's mystery quilt that I finished, the 2nd was a very old UFO quilt (the red, white and blue) and I finished the Road 2 California Sew Kind of Wonderful class quilt - Metro Rings.  While I was pinning I marked and pinned my Coxcomb quilt top (that I've had done for over a year) and spray basted a charity quilt.  Whew.  My neck, shoulders, back, etc. were so sore after being on the floor to pin those - but they are done.  No...

Loose Threads Art Quilt Groups Stuff Challenge

In December the Art Quilt Group I belong to, Loose Threads, decided to do a 'stuff' challenge.  We were all asked to bring the following: 1 fat quarter of quilting cotton fabric 1 piece of any other type of fabric something metal buttons beads fiber ephemera (I can't find the email with the original list so I'm hoping I have that right.  Got a new laptop 2 weeks ago so I lost all my emails.) We put all the like items in a bigger bag and then we took turns drawing one item from each bag.  We then were challenged to make a quilt using the items we drew.  Below is a picture of the items each of us drew with their finished quilt next to it. And here is mine.  I can't comment on what everyone was thinking when they created their quilt - we discussed it when we met, but I don't want my words to skew their thoughts.  But I'll let you know what I was thinking.  (But be warned - I'm not a deep thinker.) I got lucky.  ...

A finish or two

Okay so more than two but they are small.  The first is this kit quilt.  I bought this kit at Road to California this past year from Nancy Rink.  It's called Trafalgar Square. The quilt is an art quilt for our next art theme challenge - Art Nouveau.  I used the Tsukineko Inks.  No water used so I can get full coverage.  I got the design from one of those design source books. The next three items are for our guild's boutique in October. I spent all last weekend embroidering and one of the things I finished was the pillow.  I also stitched out 4 labels and a bunch of Halloween and Christmas things.  Not sure what I am going to do with it all but while it was set up I just kept stitching. And I need to end on some cuteness.  My step-daughter sent me this pic of the grandkids. Guild is this weekend so I have two bags of show and tell this month.  Well 2 of the quilts are for our charity group - one I made and anot...

A ton of finishes

Kind of only 2.  You'll see in a minute.  I was busy the last few weeks with guild business and then I had three of my quilts and a guild charity quilt to finish.  First my quilts.  Remember in December when I started the Bonnie Hunter Mystery this year?   This is the last time I posted about them.   I wasn't thrilled with the green sashing.  I saw on Facebook where someone took all those sashing pieces and made a separate quilt.  I liked what I saw so I went ahead and did that.  But here's what I did with the other blocks.  I didn't use any sashing.  Just the blocks and I did use the border pieces.  I just quilted an all over stipple and got it done.  Pretty bright and outside of my 'wheel house' let's say.  But I'll put it to good use somewhere.    And just in time for St. Patrick's Day, I finished this little lap quilt with the sashing strips.  Just stitched in the ditch and a feather in the borde...

Grand Illusion Clue 3 and a Loose Threads project

I have one, yes only one block, of clue 3 done for the  Bonnie Hunter Grand Illusion Mystery , however I do have all the strips with the black on it done and fabrics cut for the other piece.  Hopefully will be able to get to it next week.  The next 2 nights will be spent finishing and wrapping some Christmas gifts.  Here is what I have so far. And Loose Threads, the art quilt group that I belong to, met tonight and I finally was able to reveal my latest design board challenge.  This was the last round and I hope Karen will update the groups blog with all the pictures, but in the mean time, here is mine.  Inspired by something on this board. We are adding a couple new members next year because we've lost a couple due to moves this past few years.  We will be using artist styles for our inspiration next year.  More on that at another date. Off to bed.  Another busy day tomorrow. Thanks for looking.

Loose Threads - Design Board Challenge Quilts - Round 4

Tonight was Loose Threads.  Our group keeps getting smaller and smaller due to people moving and such.  However, those of us who are left, met tonight with a guest and previous member, Deolinda Rhoads.  It was great to see her again. I had Adena Joseph's board and on it she had an apple core, with a swatch of solid green and some green frond leaves.  However, my creative side of the brain was over loaded and I ended up doing something a bit traditional. It is a Lori Holt's pattern. Karen Taber couldn't make it but she did email a picture of her almost finished project.  She had Barbara Sawyers board. Barbara Sawyer inspired by Grace Hoya's board. Adena's Shockra quilt inspired by Sara Kelly's Board And Grace Hoya inspired by one of the stained glass pieces on my board. Thanks for looking.
