Pointless Quilter

It's been kind of  slow month.  My machine (Bernina 750) has been in the shop for the past two weeks so not a whole lot of quilting going on.  But I did finish a cross stitch piece.  It's a Prairie Schooler Santa.  See photo above.  This is the one with the Sewing Machine.  I also have the pattern with a quilt and that will be the next one I work on.  They are pretty easy patterns and they use mostly the same DMC colors so they all coordinate.  They have an annual Santa.  The one with the sheep is from this year and the sewing machine one is from a previous year. As far as the Bonnie Hunter 2019/2020 mystery Frolic goes, I was caught up until yesterday.  Now that my machine will be back (today) I can work on yesterday's clues.  I don't have pictures of my finished Clue 1 & 2 but here are pictures of the pieces I needed to make those clues.  I'm trying to do mine in Fall colors.  It will be dark (not a lot o...

The pattern is called Anita's Arrowhead from Anita Grossmon Solomon's Rotary Cutting Revolution book.  It's also part of her CraftsyBluePrint class.  I was going to make the quilt much bigger but decided this was the perfect size and used the rest of the squares for the back.  So it's like a double sided quilt.  I quilted it myself on my Bernina 750.  I used a light pink Superior Magnifico thread on top and of course a neutral Superior Bottom Line in the bobbin.  I love how it finished.   I also finished some more cross stitch fabrics.  I still can't show about 5 of them because they are my homemade Christmas ornaments I will use this year for my siblings.  But here is what I finished. Yep my sewing machine is at the shop.  And it looks like it will be there for a while.  I have two quilts pinned and ready to quilt and two tops that are ready to pin, and blocks finished for other projects.  Just so sad.  I wore out my presser foot lifter.  The gears are stripped.  I've had the machine for about 4 years and I use my machine a lot.  It's a Bernina 750.  I love that machine and I hope it comes back like she was.  Luckily I have my old 150 which is great to piece with but it's so small I really can't quilt with it and I definitely can't use the ruler foot and do any ruler work.  Luckily the guy fixing my machine said he has a spare 590 that I can use since he won't have mine fixed for a few (5 to 6) weeks but not because he can't but he will be having surgery next week and won't be able to work until then.  But even so, I've been gone a ton the last few weeks because of work, ( a two day quick trip to Fort Worth...

And by FQS I mean the 2013/2014 Fat Quarter Shop Designer Mystery Block of the Month program.  I spent quite a bit of time quilting this.  Decided to not do an all over design and custom quilted the whole thing. I quilted the whole thing on my new Bernina 750 QE.  I had no problems.  I used bottom line in the bobbin and So Fine on the top.  Sewed like a charm.  I marked a lot of the top with a Frixion pen.  I used a cherry template on the border.  (The fabric has cherries on it.)  It's all made from Fig Tree Quilt material. I also spend all Friday night embroidering labels.  It went pretty smoothly.  I think they will need to adjust my thread cutter.  It seems to mess up the bobbin threads or is pulling all the top thread under and knotting it after it is used every couple times.  It could also be a tension thing.  Although I did adjust the tension during the embroidery and it still did it.  Who kno...

Finished 5/25/14 (still unnamed) I started Scrap-Therapy years ago and have boxes and boxes of 5" cut squares.  I have done most of the Scrap-Therapy quilts and needed more ideas of what to do with all my pre-cut scraps.  So in comes the book Nickel Quilts by Pat Speth and Charlene Thode, and then More Nickel Quilts, and then More Nickel Quilts & Borders and Amazing Nickel Quilts.  You get the picture - all kinds of quilts to make using 5" squares.  I fell in love with this pattern (called Tillies Treasure from the 1st book) when I saw a friend making this for her brother.  So I gathered over 600 squares (the inside blocks needs 2 light and 2 dark squares.  My finished quilt measures about 100" square and I LOVE IT and yes, I quilted it all by myself using my new Bernina 750QE.  I had very few problems once I figured out the right needle and tension. Goodbye 640! You have been good to me for 8 years and I will miss you. But I have fallen in love with another. She's a beaut. Big and bright and called a sewing computer. I can't wait to get to know her better. Spent a lovely day in Los Osos with my material girls. There was only 6 of us but still had fun with good food and fellowship. Two weekends ago the local quilt show called Best of the Valley was open and this year I entered three quilts. I was lucky enough to get a ribbon on each quilt. A first place for my fish quilt, a third place for my butterfly quilt and an honorable mention on my linen quilt. I didn't take pictures of all the other wonderful quilts but my friend Debbie posted a bunch on her blog which is listed on by 'blogs I read list'. Her blog is called Quilt Crazy Debbie. Other than that I have just been working on a Nickel Quilt book pattern called Tillie's Treasure. I have two more borders to go before I can pin and quilt it.
