Pointless Quilter

Finished a simple little fusible applique wall hanging from Fig Tree quilts from their Vintage Postcard collection. the best part - is it's on the resolution quilt list!  yea!  I also got all the snaps on the ipod cases for the boutique so that horrible and loud job is done. Now I can start working on my blue and white Christmas quilt.  It's a lot (all) glittery fabrics and some of it is kind of plasticy so I have no idea how to press or how it will quilt.  But it will sparkle when it's done! I have had a very productive weekend so far - but I can't show you anything.  I first finished the guilds challenge quilt.  We reveal those in July so I can't show it until them.  We each received a "fortune cookie" with a fortune or rules that we had to do.  Mine was 'use 13 Half Square Triangles' which means that we can only use 13 half square triangles -no more, no less.  We can use other blocks.  I like what I made and can't wait to show it. I  also finished my final whisper challenge quilt (also won't be able to show those until July).  This was a tough one for me and I had so many options to mine and hated all of them.  I did a lot of cutting and asking my hubby and friend  for their thoughts.  I finally opted for simple.  I think I'll print out the pictures of all my options and show when we reveal. Also finished 4 embroidered labels, a towel for my niece (just embroidered her name on it) and 8 ipod cases for the gui...

I know shocking (that I have flowers).  I always love seeing the flowers all these quilters show on their blogs but I unfortunately, have a brown thumb.  A few Christmases ago, I received one of those bulbs that you can grow in your windowsill.  I usually plant them outside and nothing comes of it.  Well this year, look what showed up. The first picture was from Thursday morning and the second picture was taken this morning. I also finished a smallish quilt (about 52" square).  The original pattern was a freebie from P&B Textiles for their Gramercy Park fabric collection.  I made mine smaller than the original pattern because the fabric I had for the border just didn't look right so I ended it at the inner border.  I used the border fabric on the back.  These are not my colors--not sure why I bought them in the first place.  It's a minty green and a purply-pink.  Since I bought them years ago, who knows what I was thinking. ...

I had to warm up for quilting a bigger quilt so I thought this would be a good warm up piece and was thinking of using the curvy sample for the bigger quilt. Leah Day, of  http://freemotionquilting.blogspot.com/  fame was the teacher this month.  This was a new and fun idea for stippling (my least favorite design) but this adds a little extra something so it fills the space a little better too. My youngest nephew is going to go to Norway this year through Kent International Athlete Ambassadors to play soccer.  He will be staying with a family while there and I figured he would need to give them a hostess gift and offered to make a little table topper for him to give them.  Norway's national colors are red, white and blue and of course I backed this little baby with soccer fabric.  I still haven't done the label yet, but he won't be leaving until later this year and I need him to name the quilt.  So excited for him.  Here's a little info on what his trip is about. In March our guild had Marie Strait as a speaker and she had a scrap workshop.  She gives you two scrap block patterns to play with and then you can lay them out in any fashion you want.  The block I chose you can use in any log cabin pattern.  I made this quilt - it's 94" x 94" and barely made a dent in my stash.  I found the border from the More Nickel Quilts book by Pat Speth.  I quilted feathers in the light area but you can't even really see them - made for good practice. This past Friday and Saturday, two friends (Elaine Berry and Janice Minyard) and I, did the 2012 Heart of the Valley Shop Hop.  We did the southern route on Friday and we added the 2 Porterville stores in our roster even though they weren't officially on the hop.  On Saturday morning we drove to the northernest store in Turlock and worked our way south until we ended at our home store, Thimble Towne in Visalia.  At that store they had a photo area to fit with...
