Two quilts, ATC Cards and a hat

Once I finished quilting the guilds quilt, I had a few of my own to finish.  The first thing I had to do though, as stated in my last blog entry, was make my sister her hat and neck warmer....here it is.  (Oh sis, I mailed it yesterday - you should get it by the 5th or 6th.)

The ATC theme this month's guild meeting was FiRe.... burning passion, hot flames.  This is what I created.  I first painted the fabric with inks and then I just stitched with a few different color threads.  I only made 4 so I won't get to keep one if everyone participates this month.   Just noticed the picture is upside down.
The next thing I finished was my Hawaiian Fall quilt.  I just straight line quilted it.  I thought I'd let the fabric do the talking.  This fabric was in the local quilt store Thimble Towne and spoke to me every time I was there so a year ago I broke down and bought a bunch of it without a pattern in mind.  I kept looking for a pattern that would show off the fabrics but couldn't find anything so I just drew this out and sewed it accordingly.  That's my husband holding it up - he likes that it's tall enough to cover his toes.  (Oh and another resolution quilt I can scratch off the list.)
Last November I took a class through my local guild (Common Threads Quilt Guild) with Barbara Dieges.  she taught the twisted bargello.  It's not a big quilt and I was so proud of myself that all the fabric used was in my stash.  Even the border and backing fabric.  I spent some time with the quilting on this one and I really like it from the back better than the front.  I used a King Tut thread and loved the look against the bronze color fabric.  I don't know if I was having trouble with the tension so much because I used a sheet for the backing fabric, but every now and then, my thread would pull to the back and snag/loop.  Well here it is--the front and back.  (And still another resolution quilt finished.)
I also finished one more small charity quilt - it wasn't a top that I pieced - I bought it at our guild's white elephant sale in December.  It's really small and hopefully some baby or kid will be able to use it.

Guild meeting tomorrow night.  We're having Thom Atkins, the bead guy, speaking and he's also teaching a class on Saturday.  Looking forward to that.  He teaches beading for quilts.

  2. The package arrived today (with all our Valentine's goodies) and I can't wait to wear my hat out tomorrow on my morning walk. The cowl is a little thicker than my old one... I'll have to work it in!
