What's been happening..

Wish I could report that I've completed a lot of quilts but that would be lying.  I have been busy, actually designing stuff and getting quilt tops pinned.  I don't normally show things in process but I might need to start. First I finally finished this top (after I got the right ruler it all came together beautifully). I used the design wall at the local quilt store since I don't have one at home.  The great thing about that is you get a lot of opinions on where to put blocks.  The top is all done and a border added. The second one is from a class I started a few years ago with Sue Garmen - it's her twirly balls block.  I decided to make mine from all different colors.  I'm working on the last block now but here are the other 8 blocks. Still not sure how I'm going to set it.  I don't have a lot of the background fabric left and the other colors I just used fat quarters so there isn't a lot of any of those either.  It will come to me wha...

Phillipa Naylor at Superior Threads in Utah!

What a week last week.  A friend and I signed up for four techniques classes at Superior Threads in St. George, Utah with Phillipa Naylor.  If you ever have a chance to take a class by her, I highly recommend it.  Not only is she a good teacher, she's very funny and fun.  You learn so much and she's so generous with her knowledge. My friend Janice (on right) and Phillipa in the middle.   We learned precision piecing, curved piecing, machine applique (all her tips and helps) and finishing techniques.   Even though it was technique classes, I was able to finish my precision piecing and mitered border piece with the spare time to use on the finishing technique classes (piping and binding two of those finishing technique's she taught). Here's the curved class piece.  Mine is the bell pepper one and Janice's is the other. We stayed in St. George two extra days to visit Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon.  So amazing. Weeping rock...

Finally a few finishes

I can't believe it's been almost a month since I posted.  I have been sewing.  Here's what I've done since the last time I posted. First I finished the half-square triangle quilt I started on my Cambria retreat last month. Triangle Swirl pattern by Laundry Basket Quilts I think this also uses all Laundry Basket fabrics.  It was a kit. Then my little sister asked me to make her a new 4th of July table topper.  The one I made her years ago was 12" square and it looked so sad on her big table so she asked me to make her a bigger one. Scrap Jar Stars by Gigis Thimble I also worked on some our guild's boutique items. All those from panels. I also signed up for Fig Tree Quilts Little Box of Fig quarterly treats.  This was the quilt from the very first box.  There was also a pattern for a towel but I haven't done that one yet. I also took some cute pictures of my puppies.  Our Jack Russel Guy is very scared of fireworks and for t...

Trip to Wisconsin (and Minnesota) -Picture heavy post

I've flown through Chicago one before and I've actually been to Minneapolis on a business trip but I wasn't able to go anywhere but to the offices and the hotel (and they did take me to the Great Mall of America), so I had truly never been to the midwest before.  My sister and her husband will be there for three years before they retire and move to Texas, so we decided we wanted to take my dad on a trip to his birth town and home before they move away.  So I was my dad's travel companion.  My sister from Seattle came too.  The first day we took it pretty easy.  We went a cheese and sausage market, then to a nice lunch and then took a river/lake cruise.  Here are few pictures from around the restaurant which was right on Lake Michigan. Here are some pictures from the cruise.  They had to raise I think 6 or 7 draw bridges for us to get to the lake. On the way home we had to try the famous Leon's Frozen Custard.  (It is ...
