Friends in the Desert, Fish, Easter & Chicks

This weekend a few friends and I went to the high desert in California to visit and sew with our friend Anna.  We were treated like royalty and I got a lot done.  It was great fun.  And no snake sightings which is relief to me.  :)
I worked on my block of the months the first day.  Her's what I got done.
My Fat Quarter Shop Designer Mystery block #2

Pat Sloan's Vacation BOM

My Guild's BOM

All caught up on my Farm Girl Vintage blocks

My blocks on the left and my friend Anna's blocks on the right.  She's not following the quilt along but is making blocks so she can teach it at her local quilt store.

Fat Quarter Shops's Snapshot quilt block July.

Sew Kind of Wonderful's Twisted Blossom Quilt along blocks.  Keeping it aqua and pink.
I still have to make the pillow of the month from Shabby Fabrics.  But I didn't take that one with me.

I did get this little panel done for our guild's boutique.  (Still needs to be quilted.)
And before the Material Girls last retreat in November 2014 I had this quilt all cut and ready to sew.  I never got to it so I wanted to get it done.  It's a fabric pack and pattern from Fig Tree Quilts.

I also started a Christmas Quilt that I am making to sell at our guilds boutique in October in the consignment section.  It's coming out beautifully.

Before I left on the retreat, I finished this little art quilt that I started at Judy Coates Perez' class in February.  I hated my background because I did a screen printing in 3 spots and it looked like big brown blobs.  Because of that it took time for me to decide how best to cover those blobs up.  I used my Tsukineko inks and used a lot of water to make it look like water color.  I also trapunto'd the fish so it really stands out.  Now I'm happy with this piece.
And last but not least, I finished the wool Easter runner I started probably last year.  I bought the wool portion probably 2 years ago on a shop hop.   I wanted a bigger runner than what they had designed so I found some Easter-ish fabrics that I thought went well with the wool portion and made this little runner.  I am very pleased with the final runner.

In other news, my grandson will be joining 4-H this year and will be raising his hens.  Here is is with his little chick.  Both little cuties.
And for other personal news, I did something I haven't done in over 25 years.  I got my hair cut pretty short.  She took off about 7" of hair.  So that's a lot of hair.  I think I lost a  pound of hair that day.  I'm still getting used to it.  I can't style it as good as she did.  But I'll find my way to style it soon.
Thank you for looking.

And keep cool.

  4. I think your haircut looks really cute! And I am so envious of all the stitchery that you accomplished on your retreat. It sounds like you all had a lot of fun. Good for you!
