Pointless Quilter

 I can't believe I didn't blog at all in 2023.  I'd love to say I'm just too busy but that wouldn't be the truth.  I easily could have found the time to update.  I will try to do better this year.  I'm going to split my updates between quilting and cross stitching and other crafting stuff plus life updates to keep the post from being too long or picture heavy.  I did quilt some this past year, more than I thought I had.  Amazing when you have to go back to look to see how much you actually accomplish.  Anyway, here are the quilting projects I finished this past year.  (I just show finished stuff.  I have a top that is pinned but not quilted yet.)  I'm back in a sewing room.  It's not quite done yet, but it's usable to sew.  The other stuff that needs to get done takes time (my nephew is installing shelves in my closets and I still have to paint them).  I will post pictures once that all gets done and everything is put in its place. But I have three quilt finishes to show.  The first is a baby quilt I made for a co-worker (soon to be ex-coworker as my tenure with the company is almost done.)   Memphis Jo Rose- she will be born sometime in 2022.  Her bedroom theme is rustic rainbow.  Used polyester batting for the fluffy look but also used Minkee Cuddle on the back. This quilt is from the McCall's 2009 magazine and the pattern is called Celebrer!  It uses a lot of the heavier woven stripes from the French General Rouenneries collection which I will never use in a quilt again.  Too heavy - made the seams and machine quilting a little difficult.  I also used French General'...

  A Bonnie Hunter quilt minus the fussy sashing and border I started this quilt at the Seven Sisters Quilt Show class I took with Bonnie Hunter over two years ago.  It was sitting in a plastic box until a few months ago when I thought I better tackle it and get it over before I forget how to do it.  It had so many parts and those big triangles are my worst blocks ever to make and the sashing required teeny tiny blocks just like that and I thought there is no way I'll ever do those - so I simplified and just added a plain white sashing with green cornerstones.  I still love it.  I will use the strips on another project so no fabric was wasted.    I'm currently working on another quilt that I had kitted up for years.  It uses French General fabric and the pattern is from the November/December 2009 McCalls Quilting magazine.  I love the colors and can't wait for it to be finished.  It called for 544 half square triangles which I used the pa...

 My blog name is Pointless Quilter but I haven't been quilting a lot lately.  I have been working on Orca Bay for a while now.  And while I have most of the inner quilt finished (well by the end of today I hope) I did have 1/2 of it done about two weeks ago. All those red triangle units with the black pieced corners kill me.  The border is full of them too and if I didn't already have the black pieced parts done for the border, I'd change it.  It's a super scrappy quilt and I did pull most of the fabrics from all of my scrap bins (strips and squares) so that is a plus.  I know I'll like it when it's finished.   I also finished this little runner.  My older sister last year chose this pattern for her new house for a Fall runner for her kitchen island.  And after I had finished the two end applique pieces (machine applique) she decided she wanted a circular or oval runner instead.  So this runner will go into our guilds boutique next ...
