Pointless Quilter

In 2014/2015 (I think those were the years) I was the programs chair for my local quilt guild.  What I loved about it was I got to hire teachers and speakers that I've always wanted to meet.  I contracted Sue Garman and was so excited to take her class and listen to her lecture.  This is her pattern Twirly Balls.  I hand appliqued the project so that's why it took so long.  I machine quilted it.  I'm glad it's done.  It's one of the quilts on my list of quilts to finish this year so yeah me!  I used mostly shiny fabrics.  I also have been able to finish a couple of guild boutique items.  I've had these embroidery designs for a while and on a whim stitched them up when I was stitching the label for the twirly balls quilt. These are all the projects that I finished this past year. Thank goodness for the blog - it's helped me keep track of what I do. I didn't think I finished a lot this year but when you add in all the boutique items and gifts, I did pretty good.  Mostly at the beginning of the year.  I had a hiccup in my life after summer and that put a halt on too much quilting.  Then I changed my mind and tried to get busy creating. I did finish 9 of the 15 projects I had on my 2017 Goal list.  I finished the En Provence Quilt, made the Halloween Embroidery quilt, finished the guild mystery quilt, the quilt for my great niece and for my nephew and his wife, finished my English Paper Pieced tumbling block quilt, finished the Pineapple quilt, the Fat Quarter Shop 2016/17 Designer mystery, and the Christmas ornaments. We had another great boutique this year.  We expanded from last year and good thing we did.  Here is a picture of the boutique before the crowds.  And most of the ladies who made this a success. We opened the doors at 9 am with a line of ladies waiting to get in.  By noon, we looked like a lot of the stuff was gone.  We kept moving things around to make it look fuller.  In addition to all the runners, placemats, baby quilts and all kinds of wonderful items, we had over 30 consignment quilts for sell.  I sold 2.  Yeah!  That will give me a little extra Christmas cash.   Here are some of the other items that I donated to the boutique.   The only thing that I got back from this bunch was the little Halloween table topper.  Most of the gifty bags I made and had shown in my previous post didn't sell.  Some years you can't make enough of something, you jus...

In January at the Road 2 California quilt show I took Anita Grossman Solomon's two color pineapple quilt.  My friend Janice took the class too and didn't want to start a new quilts so she made a couple of these blocks in the class.  So thanks Janice.  I finally finished it!  Yea!  I love it.  It can either be a Halloween quilt or if you are a San Francisco Giant's fan, it could be a quilt for you. In binding it, I found a whole section I forgot to quilt.  That has happened before.  Try as you might, you sometimes just miss a spot. And here are a couple little quilts for gifts or the guild's boutique.  The angel is actually a lap sized quilt - just looks small and the floral quilt is only 23" square. Two weeks ago I pinned 6 quilts.  I finished 2 easy ones right of way (see previous post) and this past week I finished two more.  The first one I finished was this one.  It's not my top.  It's for a lady from my friendship group who doesn't quilt much anymore but has a few tops she wants finished.  I just machine quilt for her.  (She's a hand quilter.) I got the ruler machine quilting foot for my Bernina and decided to try using it with this quilt.  It will take a while to get more comfortable using them, but I can tell I was better at it by the end of the quilt.  Practice, practice, practice.  I will probably use a straight edge ruler for one or both of the 2 remaining quilts I have to finish. I can't tell you how long it's been since I've had this kit.  I know I bought it on clearance at least 2 years ago. It's already hanging in my bedroom.  It's supposed to have heart buttons but the buttons they gave me are more on the burgundy side instead of red and I didn't really like them.  So I am leaving it like this.  That is ric-rac going through the blocks.  And I used only the blocks with dogs in them except one that has cookie in it.  That's in honor of my mom. I also finished this little one. It's for my grand niece but it will stay at her grandma's house because her mommy said quilting just 'wasn't her thing'.   So I asked my sister if she wanted a quilt at her house for when her grandkids visit and she said yes.  I already had the hexagons all cut and ready so I wanted to make it and get it out of my stash. I showed a picture of this quilt when I was pinning it.  Here it is all quilted and bound. This was on my resolution quilt list on the right.  So I get to say another one is finished!  And here is a little close up.  I should have pressed it before I photographed it, but I was in a hurry as I was packing fall stuff up today.  I also whipped this little runner up this week.  I didn't want to start a big project as I'm preparing for the Bonnie Hunter En Povence  mystery which starts this week.  Found this paper piece block from We All Sew 's Sugar Plum Runner quilt along and adjusted the block to make a runner.  Probably give it away as a gift or save it for next year's guild boutique. Two weekends ago, I went to Wonder Valley Ranch and had a retreat with my friendship group.  We were a small group but we had fun.
