Pointless Quilter

  A Bonnie Hunter quilt minus the fussy sashing and border I started this quilt at the Seven Sisters Quilt Show class I took with Bonnie Hunter over two years ago.  It was sitting in a plastic box until a few months ago when I thought I better tackle it and get it over before I forget how to do it.  It had so many parts and those big triangles are my worst blocks ever to make and the sashing required teeny tiny blocks just like that and I thought there is no way I'll ever do those - so I simplified and just added a plain white sashing with green cornerstones.  I still love it.  I will use the strips on another project so no fabric was wasted.    I'm currently working on another quilt that I had kitted up for years.  It uses French General fabric and the pattern is from the November/December 2009 McCalls Quilting magazine.  I love the colors and can't wait for it to be finished.  It called for 544 half square triangles which I used the pa...

Our guild has an annual challenge and this year the challenge theme was 'Shoes".  We were also given a piece of chalk and we had to use that color in our quilt.  My chalk was yellow.  There were some size requirements as well.  This is what I came up with. The machine embroidery design is from Designs by JuJu and it is her Fancy Footwear Filled pack.  The border fabric was something I found on a shop hop and was just the perfect piece for the shoes.  The challenge isn't due until August so I'm ahead of the game! The guild also has an annual mystery.  I participated again this year.  This too isn't due until August.  I machine quilted with an all over feather and a feather border.  I wasn't sure I'd like it when I was making the monthly components, but once it was done, I kind of like it.  I was asked to make a wedding quilt for a lady I work with.  I was thinking this can't be so bad and will add a couple extra bucks in my pocket.  I'm going to quilt anyway, might as well right?  Well I'm glad I did it for her but it's something I really don't ever want to do again.  The stress of picking the right patterns, fabrics and then when it's done, will they like it? will they go like I can't believe I wasted my money on this.  Plus, she asked me to make a duvet cover instead of a quilt.  I have never made one before but I said sure.  She did send me these paint chips so I at least had some direction to go with the color.  And I sent her a few quilt ideas and she chose this one.  This is the same pattern I made my youngest nephew for his graduation quilt.  The pattern is called Move Over which I bought through Connecting Threads years ago. Last month at guild I won 29 of these split 9 patch blocks.  I decided to quickly put a few together and make a charity quilt.  This is what I came up  I did have to re-do a couple blocks (1/4" too small) and I had to make 7 additional blocks.  Luckily it was scrappy and the red which was the square they gave us to make the blocks was an easy color for me to match in my stash.  A co-worker's daughter is graduating high school this year and is taking a European trip this April so I decided to make her early graduation gifts. A t-shirt in her favorite color.  Embroidering that was a bugger - it was a little too big for the shirt and I had hair clips to hold the shirt back (saw it on a tutorial) and they ended up blocking the movement - so the countries aren't actually 'finished'.  She also was talking to her mom about a back-pack and I said she needs to keep her money closer to her and she said she refuses to use a fanny pack so I made this lit...

Remember two posts ago when I showed all those pinned, but unquilted quilts, well I finally finished the last one.   (Actually, finished it about 2 weeks ago—although it still doesn’t have a label.)   Anyway, this was the Fat Quarter Shop’s 2018 Designer Mystery quilt.   I quilted it heavily – but I like what I did.   Samplers are always interesting to quilt.   And months ago, I finished my two guild mystery quilts.  As I was the creator and chair for the committee I felt like I had to make the quilt in both sizes.  Here’s my small quilt.  I used all fabric from my stash. Throughout the year I try to make some items for my local guild boutique.  I've been busy finishing little projects I've started over the last few years and finally decided to finish.  Here are a few more items. This is a pattern by Edyta Sitar and comes with a children's book.   Thanks for looking.  I've got more stuff to make.  The boutique is coming up quickly. In 2014/2015 (I think those were the years) I was the programs chair for my local quilt guild.  What I loved about it was I got to hire teachers and speakers that I've always wanted to meet.  I contracted Sue Garman and was so excited to take her class and listen to her lecture.  This is her pattern Twirly Balls.  I hand appliqued the project so that's why it took so long.  I machine quilted it.  I'm glad it's done.  It's one of the quilts on my list of quilts to finish this year so yeah me!  I used mostly shiny fabrics.  I also have been able to finish a couple of guild boutique items.  I've had these embroidery designs for a while and on a whim stitched them up when I was stitching the label for the twirly balls quilt. Yep.  I took a modern looking quilt and made it traditional.  I also made a quilt that I think is pretty modern.  My friend Anna (Anna the Artist Within) is a quilt designer and this is one of her quilt patterns.  She taught it at one of our guild's classes.  It's called Modern Matrix and when she made it with her color choices (a lime green, black and white) it is sooo modern.  I used a very traditional fabric and quilted it pretty traditionally too.  The lines I used were the serpentine stitch on my machine  I don't know if I pinned bad or the serpentine stitch pushes the fabric so much but my very narrow border is all messed up on two sides.  But I still like it.  And last year I was getting the Fat Quarter Shop mystery boxes.  This was one of the quilts that they had in one of the boxes.  They gave you the colored fabric, you just have to add your own backgrounds.  I called my friend Anna (same one from ...
