Pointless Quilter

 And as far as quilting, I have about 5 tops done and working on another but I am going through physical therapy on my shoulder so I haven't been able to get on the ground to pin them to finish them.  Soon I hope.   But first....I've had visitors and I took a little trip myself.   I went to the Dallas/Fort Worth area to visit my friend Beth and there was the 2022 Dallas Quilt Show that we went to.   It was a great show with lots of quilts and of course some vendors.  My friend Vicki also met us there so I got to see her.  Had a great time visiting and catching up with Beth and her husband.   Then the day after I got home from there, my friend Kathy M and her hubby (From California) were in Texas visiting his family so they came for a short visit.  I took them to Gruene Hall where they got to dance and of course took them to the Gristmill for dinner and Antler Cafe for lunch before they left. Top hand pieced by Lula Gurtrude Habaugh Smith.  This was made from clothes that were from Ida Smith Andersen who is my sister's mother-in-law. My sisters mother-in-law had this quilt top in a bag in her sewing room and Beverly found it when they were helping her clean out her room when they moved to an assisted living facility.  My sister asked if I would be willing to quilt it for her and I jumped on the chance to work on it.  It's a pretty good sized quilt, about 74 x 100.   I rounded the borders off instead of cutting them off.  I hope her mother-in-law will like what I did. I also finished this Cross Stitch and framed it by using a purchased frame then used some bone fabric that I tea dyed since it was super white and clashed with the Aida fabric.  I will be giving this to my hubby for a Christmas gift. I finished the top of my Material Girl challenge top and have the back all ready to pin.  Just need the desire to clear my floor ...

Quick update on my dad.  He spent 6 weeks in a wonderful rehab center and is at home with full-time home health care and getting physical and occupational therapy at home.  I am finally home and adjusting to a new type of life (still no job but some interviews lined up).  He's a remarkable man with a strong will to live. It's finally cooling off around here so showing a fall topper I finally finished is appropriate.  I've been working on this on and off for about a year.  It's all wool except for the backing.  The patterns and some of the wools were purchased during my New England trip about 6 years ago.  It's about time I got around to getting it done. I was able to finish my Material Girl's 2018 Challenge Quilt.  Our challenge this year was to exchange flying geese blocks (about 10 of us participated) and we had to make something using the blocks.  Here is what I came up with.  It was from a picture I saw on Pinterest.  Pictures are kind of dark.  I had my portable design wall up in my bedroom which is dark.  Anyway, I decided to add the checked border to add more interest and to get rid of more scraps.  I had a shoe box full of 2" squares.  It barely used any of them.  The box still seems full.  I use the pellon gridded stabilizer to make that border.  It may take longer to do, but it's pretty accurate and all the seams match.  Luckily I had some extra flying geese for my quilt (because I didn't like the first batch I made - not as accurate so didn't want to give to friends) so I used some of that batch.  Then one of the ladies reversed the light/dark of her ...

My red-headed granddaughter's favorite Disney Princess is Ariel from Little Mermaid.  Her third birthday theme this year was mermaid, so Oma decided to make her a few mermaid tails for her birthday gifts. One to play dress up with. And one to snuggle in. She's a big girl now with a shiny new backpack. Just for fun I gave my little dog a Mohawk.  One day I'll do it with mousse so it will stay. Last November I took a class through my guild by Claudia Dallas Gomez and in the class I made two blocks.  Today I took a quilt as you go class by Pat Robertson.  Last night I was looking for something to use for today's class and saw those 2 blocks on my design wall and decided to make a 3rd one and then use those for a quilt as you go runner. Colors are much prettier (beachy colors) in real life.  I think I need a new camera.  Or just use my cell phone from now on.
