Pointless Quilter

I don't have internet at home right now - well it's there, it's just my laptop won't connect.  It goes to the PC doctors this Thursday or Friday for some repairs and until then, I have no internet except through my phone. So because of that, I got a lot done this weekend.  First and foremost, I did my FMQ challenge.  The teacher this month is Wendy Sheppard - this month was the hardest for me.  We had to do these cute little jester hats.  However mine look more like bats that had no rhyme or reason.  My paper doodling was much better.  However this does fill the space and is a lot different from the scribbling or meandering. I dedicated this weekend to making boutique items for our guild.  We are having our first annual boutique in October and no one is sure what type of items will sell so we're trying all different kind of things.  The first things I made were these ties.  The blog where I got the pattern for the bow ties doesn't ...

Look what I won during Linda Lum DeBono's Sew Merry and Bright Book Tour to promote her new book.    I commented on Pat Sloan's blog  and she drew my name to win a copy of the book, which I got in the mail today.  There are some cute things I'd like to make.  A simple pillow that will make a great gift and some cute little ornaments.  Thanks to Linda and Pat. I went to my Tuesday night friendship group meeting and when I got home didn't feel like sewing so decided to do some more scrapbook pages for my sister-in-law/niece and nephew.  Here are two more pages for their album. Marcy's family is pretty musical and they all have fun singing and playing instruments.  Also, alot of different fish to catch and eat.  Had to do a page about that too. The rockstar/music page was a template I got for free years ago on 2 Peas in a Bucket and the fish overlay on the fish page is from Designer Digital.

A few years ago, I made a quilt using lots of yellow, greens, and turquoise.  I have it on my bed now but no end table toppers to keep the dust off until this weekend.  First though, a few friends and I got together last weekend to make this Crazy Eight topper.  Here it is on my dining room table.  Very summery!  So I had an extra strata and thought I'd use it to make two end table toppers.  Added some turquoise and a few extra strips and voila! No more dusting in the bedroom. My sister-in-law gave me some pictures of their trip to the Hood Canal this year and asked if I would create some pages for Drew and Claire's scrapbooks.  It's been a while since I have worked on their album but she got some great photos this year and they had such a good time, she wants them to remember it.  So I started with these 2 pages. My sister Beverly finally got a laptop and asked me to make her a laptop case like mine.  She picked and paid for the fabric--I got to sew it together. At first I was using my Bernina 640 but I had to pull out the old workhorse 150 and even sewing thru all the layers of headliner foam and fabric and straps was hard on that poor baby.  The pattern was made by  http://www.byannie.com/   I bought it several years ago at Road to California quilt show at the Superior Thread booth.  I think she has a new laptop case pattern.  She's great because I emailed her with some suggestions on how to prevent skipped stitches sewing thru all those layers and she wrote back right of way with needle size and thread types that I should try.  So Beverly, I'll get this in the mail to you as soon as possible.  I may keep it for next month's guild show and tell so it might be a few weeks.  :)  It was my pleasure to make this for my sister.  She and her so...

So my art quilt group met this past week and our project was pleats with inserts (trim, other fabric, etc.)  Anna was even kind enough to give us all a baggie full of fun trims.  The inspiration word was passion.  I'll show my piece and the others' and explain mine later in the post.  Pictures from iphone so not best quality. I have been a bad scrapbooker and now that I've finally gone on a trip worth scrapping, I have been working on a layout or so a day.  This is what I have done so far.  Here's a picture of my parents and their five grandchildren.  (template by Katie Pertiet -Designer Digital) This is Claire and Drew on the plane to Boston.  I was fortunate enough to be able to travel with them and their folks.  (plane swirl also by Katie Pertiet - Designer Digital) The first day there we went to the Springfield Museum who had "The Art of Brick" exhibit.  Way cool - all those things are built with Legos.  (Template by Queen of Quirk - Two Peas in a Bucket)   And my sweet niece.  (Paper from 2 peas, alpha by Kate Teague at 2 Peas, circle element from J.
