Pointless Quilter

It's been a while since I have posted.  Sorry about that.  Life does seem to get in the way of doing things that need to be done.  I did have a quilt finish.  I finally finished the Bonnie Hunter ( Quiltville ) 2019/2020 Mystery quilt.  I didn't do a lot of fancy quilting.  It was so busy that it wouldn't have shown anyway and I'm getting to the point that getting it done is better than letting it sit there.  I did do some fall leaf design in the border though.  It turned out less mottled than I thought it would be since there wasn't a whole lot of value change in the red and orange, but I like it still.  It will make a great bed quilt in the fall which is exactly what I wanted.  My younger sister has consigned me to make a quilt for a friend's daughter for her high school graduation.  It took a while to get the fabrics I needed and now I have 108 6.5" HST with a creamy yellow background and some beach color solid fabr...

It's been kind of  slow month.  My machine (Bernina 750) has been in the shop for the past two weeks so not a whole lot of quilting going on.  But I did finish a cross stitch piece.  It's a Prairie Schooler Santa.  See photo above.  This is the one with the Sewing Machine.  I also have the pattern with a quilt and that will be the next one I work on.  They are pretty easy patterns and they use mostly the same DMC colors so they all coordinate.  They have an annual Santa.  The one with the sheep is from this year and the sewing machine one is from a previous year. As far as the Bonnie Hunter 2019/2020 mystery Frolic goes, I was caught up until yesterday.  Now that my machine will be back (today) I can work on yesterday's clues.  I don't have pictures of my finished Clue 1 & 2 but here are pictures of the pieces I needed to make those clues.  I'm trying to do mine in Fall colors.  It will be dark (not a lot o...

Top hand pieced by Lula Gurtrude Habaugh Smith.  This was made from clothes that were from Ida Smith Andersen who is my sister's mother-in-law. My sisters mother-in-law had this quilt top in a bag in her sewing room and Beverly found it when they were helping her clean out her room when they moved to an assisted living facility.  My sister asked if I would be willing to quilt it for her and I jumped on the chance to work on it.  It's a pretty good sized quilt, about 74 x 100.   I rounded the borders off instead of cutting them off.  I hope her mother-in-law will like what I did. I also finished this Cross Stitch and framed it by using a purchased frame then used some bone fabric that I tea dyed since it was super white and clashed with the Aida fabric.  I will be giving this to my hubby for a Christmas gift. I finished the top of my Material Girl challenge top and have the back all ready to pin.  Just need the desire to clear my floor ...

Our guild has an annual challenge and this year the challenge theme was 'Shoes".  We were also given a piece of chalk and we had to use that color in our quilt.  My chalk was yellow.  There were some size requirements as well.  This is what I came up with. The machine embroidery design is from Designs by JuJu and it is her Fancy Footwear Filled pack.  The border fabric was something I found on a shop hop and was just the perfect piece for the shoes.  The challenge isn't due until August so I'm ahead of the game! The guild also has an annual mystery.  I participated again this year.  This too isn't due until August.  I machine quilted with an all over feather and a feather border.  I wasn't sure I'd like it when I was making the monthly components, but once it was done, I kind of like it. In April 2018 I took a Bonnie Hunter Class in Bakersfield.   It was a Jamestown Landing quilt - and I finally finished it this week. I custom quilted it but you really can't tell in the photo.  I like how it turned out and can't wait to put it on my bed in the summer.  It takes a lot of half square triangles which I did a lot of them as leaders-enders.  I'm glad it's done.  I will be taking another Bonnie class this summer so another scrap buster coming up.  I've also finished these other tops that I started in Cambria last month.  A simple little baby quilt with Minkee backing --probably donate to our guild boutique. I finished the heart quilt.  Did feather hearts in each heart and straight-lined quilting in the sashing area.   Kept it pretty simple and I finished it on Valentine's Day!!! My friendship group has an annual challenge.  It's not a requirement to participate.  This year the people who signed up exchanged 20 Flying Geese blocks to each person who signed up.  There were 10 of us.  We had to have the geese done in the Spring when we met and then we have until our Christmas party to put the quilt together.  We had our Christmas party this past Saturday.  Here is my quilt.    See all those 2" squares in the border (finished at 1.5")?  I thought for sure my shoebox filled with those squares would be empty after I finished.  But it didn't even make a dent.  Anna's Challenge.  She says she hates this quilt and is giving it away! I took a long trip in early November to the great state of Texas.  The first part of my trip was to visit my sister who just moved to New Braunfels.  She took me all over that part of Texas.  We went to San Antonio, Austin, and all points in between.  I had great barbecue at the Salt Lick. Also went to a Cracker Barrel (not that impressed this time) and she took me to a Buc-ee's gas station.  WOW! We took a tour of the Alamo.  No pictures taken but learned a lot about Texas history there. San Jose Mission This is called the Rose Window at the mission. Brenda and I in one of the cells or rooms. We went to Austin to have dinner with my nephew but before we saw him we took a tour of the State Capital Building.  I highly recommend this tour.  Learned a whole lot more about Texas and the people from Texas.
