Pointless Quilter

Now that the boutique is over I can spend some time catching up on some of my Block of the Months and sew-a-longs. Here are the Fat Quarter Shop's Designer Mystery Blocks fro September and October.  (Library and Post Office) And also from Fat Quarter Shop the September and October Snapshot blocks. And the Shabby Fabrics Pillow of the Monthly Club for October. And some  blocks from the Farm Girl Vintage Sew A Long.  I've finished the top and plan on pinning it this weekend. I'm going on a friendship group retreat in a couple weeks and I plan to machine quilt the whole time.  I will have 4 quilt tops and 2 table runners to quilt and bind. Bonnie Hunter from Quiltville announced her colors for this years' mystery quilt called Allietare this year - it will have the colors of Italy, a place she visited this past year.  She is always inspired by her travels.  I think I'll start pulling colors tonight. September is my month that I set aside to make boutique items for our local guilds annual fund raiser, a holiday boutique.  I feel its my responsibility to keep our guild alive (I love great speakers and workshops and our guild is good at that).  Our guild helps our community and learn.  So I try to make as much stuff as I can.  Here are a few more items. I've made Christmas and Halloween little gift bags, and thought people would give little gifts at Valentines too. More cord cozies.  Won these 5" squares at one of the guilds little quilt drawing.  Thought I'd put them to use for the boutique.   It's a small baby quilt. What little kid wouldn't want an Olaf (of Frozen) quilt? And for the boys, a little Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle quilt. An adult size lap quilt for Halloween. Some fun Minkee baby hats. I had a challenge with a friend to finish two quilts by the end of August.  I got them both pinned and one done but not bound until September 1st.  Here it is.  It's from a kit I got from Fig Tree Quilts.  It's not all Fig Tree fabrics though.  She had a mix of  all different lines of fabrics. And after I finished that my goal was to make more boutique items.  Here are some more items I've made. These little bags are great to give as gifts with a gift card and some candy.  I want to make some Valentine's bags too.  Bowl cozies.  Put your bowl in, microwave and take out without burning your fingers.    Cord tacos.  I need to make more.  My sisters said these would make great stocking stuffers, wink wink.  The town of Hanford where the boutique is held has an annual Witches Night Out and they are always looking for decorated hats.  So the guild got together and made a bunch to se...

Three years ago, my quilt guild, Common Threads, started having an annual boutique in October.  It has been a wonderful fund raiser for our guild and we are starting to get a following of people who look forward to it every year.  I try to make as much stuff as I can and I also make some bigger quilts that I put on sale on consignment - the guild keeps 20% I get the rest.  The other stuff that we donate we get back if they don't sell.  We can pick the price we want the items to be sold at as well and without your permission, they can't lower the price. Here are a few items I've finished this last month.  I had the two baby quilt tops done at my retreat at my friends a few weeks ago, but I am done quilting and binding them. I can finally post this quilt I finished a couple months ago for our guild's challenge. It was a magazine page challenge.  We each drew a magazine out of a bin (without looking) and then we drew a number out of a bag.  We had to be inspired by the page in the magazine that matched your number.  This is my page. See how lucky I was.  I had a circle with buttonhole stitching on it.  I had 1/4" on my page and I had lots of words.  Words, words, words!  And some colors.  All the background fabrics in my quilt was text fabrics.  And I used the colors in the quilt using some of my small stash of  Kaffe fabrics.  I had just seen the Missouri Star quilt tutorial about the melon block.  I thought I could use that technique for circles.  But thought a quilt full of just circle blocks would be kind of boring so I added the melon patch in there.   And guess what?  I got 1st place in the challenge.  And ...

Okay so more than two but they are small.  The first is this kit quilt.  I bought this kit at Road to California this past year from Nancy Rink.  It's called Trafalgar Square. The quilt is an art quilt for our next art theme challenge - Art Nouveau.  I used the Tsukineko Inks.  No water used so I can get full coverage.  I got the design from one of those design source books. The next three items are for our guild's boutique in October. I spent all last weekend embroidering and one of the things I finished was the pillow.  I also stitched out 4 labels and a bunch of Halloween and Christmas things.  Not sure what I am going to do with it all but while it was set up I just kept stitching. And I need to end on some cuteness.  My step-daughter sent me this pic of the grandkids. This weekend a few friends and I went to the high desert in California to visit and sew with our friend Anna.  We were treated like royalty and I got a lot done.  It was great fun.  And no snake sightings which is relief to me.  :) I worked on my block of the months the first day.  Her's what I got done.
