Pointless Quilter

I finally finished the quilts!  This past years Designer Mystery Block of the Month from Fat Quarter Shop was made with Edyta Sitar's (Laundry Basket Quilts) blue and cream line called Snow Bird.  FQS is generous with the amount of fabric you get and by ordering a mini fat quarter pack extra I was able to make 2 blocks of each block with lots of fabrics left over.  Here's the original quilt pattern set in the way they designed it.  Here's the other quilt with the extra blocks and extra fabrics from the finishing kit.  I think I also bought more of the blue dot fabrics.  Here's the quilting on the back of the quilt.  Both were custom quilted by me and my Bernina.  I also finished by guild's challenge quilt.  I can't show it all yet, but I wanted to prove (and log the date) that I finished it.  I finished binding these quilts this weekend while spending Father's Day with my dad.  Like I've said before, he watches a lot of ...

I've  been busy machine quilting 3 quilts (which I will show when the binding is sewn down) so right when I was done with those I got busy working on my Block of the Months. The first one is the first in the new Fat Quarter Shop Designer Mystery Block of the Month.  It's a blue and cream holiday themed quilt.  I believe the fabrics are Primitive Gatherings and a bunch of designers design the blocks for it.  I'm only making one block this year instead of the two each like I was able to do last year. Also through Fat Quarter Shop I'm working on their Snapshopts Block of the Month. These have been fun blocks to make and I even made an extra of this one because our guild is having an ice cream social in July and I thought I'd donate a mini quilt made from the extra block. Every year my friendship group Material Girls decide on a challenge.  This years the challenge was to make each of us a signature block-one in a theme or style that we want.  Then by our Holiday party in December we need to have the blocks put together in a top.  Here are the blocks I received. I love all of them.  The challenge will be to put them together in a top that will be beautiful.  I love a good challenge. Here are the blocks that I made for everyone. I took Pat Speth's class in March 2015.  She's the author of all the Nickel quilt books.  If you get a chance to take her class, I recommend it.  I've had the top done for a while - just needed time to machine quilt it.  Finished the binding after a nice mother's day lunch with my hubby and in-laws.  Missed my mom so much today.  Hand stitching the binding down was very good therapy. This is the second big quilt I've made with this fabric and I still have a lot left.  Here's the first quilt.  It was Pat Sloan's Block of the Month last year called Globetrotting. Finally.  It seems like I haven't finished anything because I haven't posted, but that's not true.  I finished (almost) 14 quilt blocks for my Material Girls Block exchange which is due in June.  All I have left to do is some fancy stitching on 3 Crazy quilt blocks.  (We all put our 'order' in on what kind of block we wanted.)  And then I have to sign each block.  Can't show pictures though. See this lovely sign.  My sister Brenda cut the vinyl for me months ago, and I finally got around to painting it.  I love it.  Thanks Brenda. And for Easter weekend I went and visited my dad.  He and my brother and I had a nice quiet Easter dinner.  Brian's family were all down south visiting Marcy's family but Brian couldn't go because of his job.  But my dad did have these blooming that he wanted me to take pictures for him.  He said that he and my mom planted them years ago, but they never bloomed until last year, after my mom ...

I know - two posts in one weekend after a month of silence.  What can I say, when it rains it pours. I finished all my block/pillow of the months today.  Between cleaning house (my art girls are coming on Tuesday so good inspiration to clean house) I was able to finish these.  First, my Fat Quarter Shop Designer Mystery Block of the Month (#10).  And then Pat Sloan's Vacation Time Block of  the Month mystery.  Fat Quarter Shops Snapshots mystery.  And Shabby Fabrics Pillow of the month.  Made my first rouched flowers on this one. And I got the piping/binding on this one. I also got 3 blocks for my Material Girls friendship group block exchange done.  Can't show those though. Thanks for looking have a great week.

Kind of only 2.  You'll see in a minute.  I was busy the last few weeks with guild business and then I had three of my quilts and a guild charity quilt to finish.  First my quilts.  Remember in December when I started the Bonnie Hunter Mystery this year?   This is the last time I posted about them.   I wasn't thrilled with the green sashing.  I saw on Facebook where someone took all those sashing pieces and made a separate quilt.  I liked what I saw so I went ahead and did that.  But here's what I did with the other blocks.  I didn't use any sashing.  Just the blocks and I did use the border pieces.  I just quilted an all over stipple and got it done.  Pretty bright and outside of my 'wheel house' let's say.  But I'll put it to good use somewhere.    And just in time for St. Patrick's Day, I finished this little lap quilt with the sashing strips.  Just stitched in the ditch and a feather in the borde...
